Cyber security council brings together Canadian leaders to drive dialogue and discussion around the issues and opportunities facing Canadian government, industry and citizens
May 28, 2015
Despite daily media coverage and the increased focus on cyber security issues overtaking boardrooms across Canada, there is still a need to increase awareness for Canadians as it relates to online security and the protection of critical data. This is just one of the mandate items CATA's recently launched Cyber Council intends to tackle
"From very early on, the intent was to gather together some of Canada's leading voices on cyber security to help increase the dialogue related to issues and we've done that" says Katherine Thompson, Vice-President and National Spokesperson with CATA. "The group we have assembled has a deep understanding of the issues facing the public and private sectors not only in Canada but globally" adds Thompson.
In addition to Thompson, the council includes the following:
Lynda Calvert - Professor of Journalism at Seneca College and graduate of Munk School of Global Affairs specializing in cyber security
Peter Hammerschmidt - Director General of National Cyber Security for Public Safety Canada
Gaetan Houle - President of GH Inc. and former National IT Security Lead with EY
Gary Perkins - Chief Information Security Officer(CISO), Executive Director, Information Security Branch, Province of British Columbia
John Proctor - Vice-President, Global Cyber Security for CGI
Danny Timmins - President and CEO, NCI Inc.
As the council develops it's action plan for 2015-16, we call upon all interested CATA members to join the discussion. The intent is to not only tackle important issues, but help showcase the innovation and expertise of Canadian government and industry as it relates to cyber security. This is an issue impacting every sector and requires collaboration for industry, government, academia and trade associations.
