First Responder Forum Report Provides Unique Insights and Solutions Addressing Canada's Interoperability Crisis: Request your copy today

Ottawa, May 21, 2009… CATAAlliance released a report today that identifies the challenges, technology needs, and next steps in addressing the current nation-wide interoperability crisis among Canada's First Responders, while further providing competitive insight into their procurement practices and current and future ICT needs.

The report's findings are based on the uniquely formatted, two-day First Responder Vendor Outreach Forum attended by leading Canadian and international ICT and advanced security technology providers, solution consultants, and leaders from various First Responder departments and organizations across the country.

"The Forum proved to be an outstanding environment to facilitate open and honest discussion among vendors and Canada's public safety practitioners," says Inspector Lance Valcour with Ottawa Police Service and Project Manager for the Canadian Interoperable Technology Interest Group (CITIG). "The key findings and next steps outlined in this report are critical intelligence for government, industry and First Responders to draw from and strive to enact through continued collaboration."

The 21-page report summarizes the presentations and key themes from the Forum and outlines the current challenges faced by Canadian First Responders, such as:

  • Lack of government policy and funding
  • Technology as both a barrier and enabler for interoperability
  • Achieving balance between corporate social responsibility vs. profitability
  • Procurement obstacles
  • Lack of awareness regarding existing solutions
  • Identifying future technology needs and providers

As an added bonus, the report is accompanied by downloadable presentations provided by many of the Forum's speakers and panelists. These deeply informative presentations come equipped with unique multimedia content - watch a suspect being tracked with infrared technology from the York Police helicopter - and critical policy and procurement intelligence.
