What is your best advice for leading virtual teams through a crisis?
Communication is key! We host a daily virtual cafe at noon, Friday socials and have a dedicated channel that allows people to share photos, jokes, memes, and it builds camaraderie virtually.
What technology are you using that eases remote team effectiveness?
Tehama, Slack, Google Meet are the top three that come to mind. The team is all abuzz about a new tool that was just launched called screen.so, that enables people to share a screen and work on any app they see together.
Some people in our community are struggling. Leading in business can be lonely, and with added COVID-19 stresses and social distancing, there’s value in hearing from leaders facing and solving unprecedented challenges. We are working with CATA community members and partners to share insight and reassuring guidance for leading virtually through a crisis. We have invited the 20 leaders to be the face of the Virtual shift social media and podcast series. Each weekday, for 20 consecutive days, advice and inspiration for today’s challenges, and an outlook for the other side of COVID-19 will be shared by technology leaders. The Podcast is partnered with The Business Leadership Podcast series and hosted by Edwin J. Frondozo.
The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance is leading a Rebound Commercialization Program proposal to the Feds to prevent the collapse of Canada’s tech sector, saving companies, talent, IP and high paying jobs that are both an economic strategic advantage to our nation, and a major attractor driving the immigration of world class talent. The proposal focuses on 12,000 Canadian Majority owned companies who invest in Canadian R&D and have a demonstrated track record via the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit program. The efforts will position Canada’s tech sector to rebound and thrive in a competitive and opportunity rich post COVID-19 era.
