OTTAWA (February 22, 2007) -The Advanced Technology Employment index, powered by CATAAlliance and Monster Canada, soared 14 points or 19 percent monthly increase in January, as Canada online job demand bounced back from the seasonal decline historically observed in December. The Advanced Technology Employment Index provides a monthly measure of on-line job demand and is designed to highlight key labour market trends in Canada. Based on data culled from Monster.ca and other Canadian recruitment Web sites believed to be representative of employer on-line hiring activity nationwide, the Index enables extensive real-time analysis of on-line recruitment trends by occupation, region and major metropolitan areas. CATAAlliance President John Reid, observed, "After registering an expected decline in December, the Advanced Technology Index rebounded sharply in January. This is an indicator that the robust hiring activity that occurred across the Canadian advanced technologies sector in 2006 will continue through the first quarter of 2007. With 29 points above its twelve months baseline average, the Index now stands at 129, and is up 17 points, or 15 percent, on a year over year basis." He added, "Despite a seasonal decline in December, the long term trend is positive, an indicator of the robust hiring activity across Canadian economy in general, and more specifically for occupations in the advanced technologies sector.
