OTTAWA. ON - Dr. Sara Diamond. Dr. Diamond. who has spurred the development of initiatives to foster art and design invention. says a key to making Canada an Intelligent Nation is to generate in each community a cross-cultural mix of expressive arts: "Digital media and design. sustainability. health and wellness. cultural diversity and Aboriginal cultures -- all these disciplines and more must work in concert." said Dr. Diamond.

"We have historically had a focus on art and design in Canada. OCAD University brings this forward and projects our strengths into the future. We have always worked well with industry and the public sector. and I welcome the opportunity to participate with my colleagues in other sectors through the i-CANADA Governors' Council."

"I have always admired the energy and vision of Sara Diamond." said i-CANADA Chair Bill Hutchison. "We are privileged to be able to tap into her creative talents and vision and her community that is blending their creativity with their special skills in communications and digital media technologies.

The creative design and artistic sectors are at the top of our model of what an Intelligent Community looks like where the model's architecture has five layers or domains: Place. Infrastructure. Collaboration Ecosystem™. Solutions and Life - the ultimate domain covering how citizens live. learn. work and play. This is where Sara's leadership becomes most valuable -- at the top of the pyramid of any community."

i-Canada's Council of Governors. chaired by Premier of New Brunswick David Alward. is an influential group of municipal. provincial. corporate. academic and national leaders. Together they are setting the vision and direction for boosting the Canadian economy by building on a foundation of the most advanced information technologies and broadband communications.

"Creating an Intelligent Nation requires national leadership. interest and support as well as local community motivation and effort." said Hutchison. "The benefits being achieved by the world's leading Intelligent Communities include economic growth. incoming investment. job creation and new dimensions in social prosperity. We are looking forward to advancing a blend of these elements in our conference in Windsor on November 16-17."
