Big + Small, Small + Big = Growth for All in an Interconnected World

Today’s economy is all about competing for the future. And today collaboration can be one of the keys to competitiveness. Every time you collect frequent flyer miles, every time you use a bank machine, you are helping companies grow and compete through cooperation.

We have spent decades building teams inside our organizations. Now we must turn to building teams among organizations. We are moving from an economy based on the firm to one based on networks of companies and organizations and rival alliances.

What are the drivers? One only has to look at the rising cost of research and development costs; collapsing product life cycles; increasing multifunctionality of products; and the rush to establish standards and global market share.

And perhaps top of the list, today time drives markets!

Partnership can make you fat enough and flexible enough to anticipate, create and capture markets.

The challenge is to understand your core competencies and then align yourself with organizations with complementary talents. The strategy is to forge a series of even-changing alliances that deliver a competitive edge and success.

The bottom line is that you cannot go it alone in an interconnected world.

In your view, what are the keys to successful partnerships and collaboration?
