October 20, 2011 -- New Brunswick has created a great place to grow companies and encourage successful entrepreneurs, says Gary Stairs, President of Fredericton-based Stellar-RHL and Atlantic Chair of i-CANADA, the program to create an Intelligent Nation. “New Brunswick has developed a model of collaboration between experienced investors, young entrepreneurs, universities, and government,” said Mr. Stairs.
“We have been building a collaborative ‘Silicon Valley’ ecosystem since the late 80’s” noted Mr. Stairs. “We used to be known for potatoes and fish; now New Brunswick is a showcase for digital investments and green waves of wealth.”
New Brunswick has recently been in the news for the successful investments of people like Gerry Pond, who backed a young entrepreneur named Chris Newton. Mr. Newton founded Radian6 Technologies, which together with Q1 labs, sold for more than $1-billion from corporate buyers. “Those deals alone created 50 new millionaires in New Brunswick,” stated Mr. Stairs. “We have a line-up of global-scale companies that are also winners, backed by a raft of investors. We have found an approach that has created an innovation hotbed, where people with a passion for start-ups can connect easily with experienced investors and government resources.”
Mr. Stairs will be describing New Brunswick’s collaboration ecosystem at the i-CANADA “New National Dream” event, which will be held November 16-17 in Windsor. New Brunswick Premier David Alward is a keynote speaker at the event; Premier Alward is Chair of the Governor’s Council of i-CANADA. Please register at:
