Bains.jpgPatent Infringement Advocacy Alert

Dear Mr. Reid:

On May 25, 2016, the Honourable Diane Finley, Member of Parliament, forwarded to me your email conveying your concerns about the recent court ruling that classifies Canadian Armed Forces veterans on a supplementary reserve as public servants falling under the Public Service Invention Act. I regret the delay in replying to you. Please be assured that the well-being of Canadian veterans is of upmost importance to us. I can appreciate the implications of the decisions of the court on job transition for veterans on the supplementary reserve list. The Government of Canada recognizes that veterans possess talents and skills that are needed in the Canadian job market, and that they have the right to be able to competitively transition into the private sector. My departmental officials are assessing the impact of the recent court decision and its effect on the Public Service Invention Act. We will continue to ensure this Act preserves our policy goals for an innovative Canada, a valued role for veterans, and strong support for inventors.

I trust that this information is helpful. Please accept my best wishes. Sincerely,

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, P.C., M.P.
