About John Matheson


Is Director of Policy and Stakeholder Relations, Office of the Minister of Small Business and Tourism and a senior political advisor to Cabinet Minister Bardish Chagger. In this role, his principal focus is to guide the delivery of the minister’s priorities as outlined by Prime Minister Trudeau into policy action. Mr Matheson is also responsible for cabinet affairs, ministerial trips, and relations with stakeholders from municipal, provincial, and territorial governments, civil society, and industry.He leads a team of three policy advisors in the minister’s office and liaise with a bureaucracy of nearly 5,000 public service officials.


As Digital Projects Manager Liberal Party of Canada, Mr. Matheson was recruited (2015 election) by chief digital strategist Tom Pitfield for project management oversight, including deploying a four-person digital taskforce to support Justin Trudeau’s 7,000-person “Rally for Real Change” and the launch of his election platform live on Facebook, the first time ever this has been accomplished. He also created and executed a digital youth engagement campaign (“#matters”) in partnership with Vice Media as well as leading the content preparation for the Munk Debate and co-directed the social media response on debate night.
