March 14, 2012 letter to CATAAlliance
from Industry Canada Minister
As you may be aware, today I announced a number of policies for the upcoming spectrum auctions, including the immediate allocation of one block - the Public Safety Broadband Bloc- of 700 MHz spectrum for pubic safety use.
First I would like to thank you for the valuable input provided by your organization, and for your patience while we considered the broad range of views received. It was the government's hope that this 10 MHz of spectrum will assist the public safety community in protecting the safety and security of Canadians.
The U.S. recently designated an additional bloc of spectrum, the 'D' bloc for public safety use. We are reviewing the implications of this decision and will consult stakeholders on the use of 'D' bloc spectrum in Canada. I look forward to hearing your views.
The Honourable Christian Paradis, P.C., MP
Minster of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture)
