New Outstanding Product Achievement Award to Recognize Excellence in the Content and Application Mobility Industry (MoCo) in Canada - Submit your nominations today!

The Ericsson Award for Mobility Technology to be given at CATAAlliance’s Innovation Awards Gala

OTTAWA, March 10, 2008 - CATAAlliance, Canada's largest high technology association announced today the creation of a new Outstanding Product Achievement Award recognizing excellence in the Content and Applications Mobility Industry. The Award will be named after one of world’s leading telecommunications firms, Ericsson.

The new Award will be presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development which has resulted in the production of a world-class Mobility product or family of products. The product will have proven itself in operation and its design and market success will have enhanced Canada's international reputation for innovation and excellence.

With a 10% annual growth, mobility is the fastest growing segment of the Canadian telecommunications industry and more than one Canadian over two has a cellular phone. But these figures only tell part of the story. As the wireless industry reaches its maturity, the bulk of its future growth lays with data services - not voice services. Hundreds of companies have entered the race, to create new technologies and services, from the one-product SME to ubiquitous corporate giants such as Microsoft and Apple.

Finalists and award recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprising experts drawn from the CATAAlliance Governing Council and Ericsson Canada.

According to CATAAlliance President, John Reid, "Ericsson continues to demonstrate its dedication to technology excellence and leadership through its support of recognition programs, research and advocacy. Awards and related programs create role models and also help to reinforce the power of new technologies in stimulating Canada's business growth and productivity. They are an important part of building Canada's Innovation Nation. We're proud to announce that the Mobility Technology Award will be named in Ericsson’s honour and congratulate them on their corporate citizenship."

"Global business success requires future-oriented thinking," said Pierre Boucher, Director, Research and Innovation, Ericsson Canada Inc. "It also requires innovative capabilities, risk taking and entrepreneurship. The mobile content revolution will be marked by the arrival of business and professional applications in areas, such as, health and education, tourism, cultural institutions, and advertising.” He added, “The race to develop new technologies to increase productivity is on and Canadian companies need to be at the forefront. We are honoured to support this new award which recognizes Canada’s best in Mobility Content and Applications.”

The new Award for Mobility Technology will be presented on June 10th in Ottawa at the CATAAlliance's Annual Innovation Awards Gala Dinner, a 23 year tradition of recognizing outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership in expanding the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industries. CTV Host, Paul Brent will be returning as the guest MC and moderator of a stellar CEO Panel of High Tech business leaders focusing on the keys to world class success.
