OTTAWA, February 25, 2008 - CATAAlliance, Canada's largest high technology association announced today the creation of a new Outstanding Product Achievement Award recognizing excellence in Clean Tech. The Gowlings Clean Tech Award will be named after one of Canada's leading law firms, Gowlings.
The new Award will be presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development that has resulted in the production of a world-class Clean Tech product or family of products. The product will have proven itself in operation and its design and market success will have enhanced Canada's international reputation for innovation and excellence.
Clean technology includes wind power, solar power, biomass, hydropower, biofuels, information technology, electric motors, lighting, and many other appliances that are now more energy efficient. It is a means to create electricity and fuels with a smaller environmental footprint. Finalists and award recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprising experts drawn from Sustainable Development Canada, the Ottawa Clean Tech Cluster, the Deloitte Fast 50, CATAAlliance and Gowlings.
According to CATAAlliance President, John Reid, "Gowlings continues to demonstrate its dedication to technology excellence and leadership through its support of recognition programs, research and advocacy. Awards and related programs create role models and also help to reinforce the role of new technologies in stimulating Canada's business growth and productivity. They are an important part of building Canada's Innovation Nation" adding, "We're proud to announce that the Clean Tech Award will be named in Gowlings' honour and congratulate them on their corporate citizenship."
"Global business success requires future-oriented thinking," says David Pamenter, Gowlings' National Technology Industry Group leader. "It also requires innovative capabilities, risk taking and entrepreneurship. Nowhere is this truer than in the area of Clean Tech, with which our Firm has been involved for a number of years. The race to develop new technologies to increase productivity and protect our environment is on and Canadian companies need to be at the forefront. We are privileged to already serve many clients in this emerging area, and honoured to support this new award which recognizes Canada's best in Clean Tech."
The new Gowlings Award for Clean Tech will be presented on June 10th in Ottawa at the CATAAlliance's Annual Innovation Awards Gala Dinner, a 23-year tradition of recognizing outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership in expanding the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industries. CTV Host, Paul Brent will be returning as the guest MC and moderator of a stellar CEO Panel of High Tech business leaders focusing on the keys to world class success.
