The TELUS Award for mHealth Innovation to be given at CATAAlliance’s Innovation Awards Gala
OTTAWA, February 21, 2014 - CATAAlliance, Canada's largest high technology association announced today the creation of a new Outstanding Product Achievement Award recognizing mHealth Innovation in Canada’s Health Care Sector. The Award will be named after one of world’s leading telecommunications firms, TELUS.
The new Award will be presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development or solution which has resulted in the production of a world-class mHealth product or family of products. The product or solution will have proven itself in operation and its design and market success will have enhanced Canada's international reputation for health care innovation and excellence.
Canadian experts (Tech Vibe, Oct. 2013) say that the Digital health care revolution will shift the landscape from a physician centric, disease-orientated, hospital-based system to one that is consumer-driven, wellness-focused and constantly monitoring personal biometrics. This will generate data, devices and other monitoring systems to measure each individual’s needs.
The convergence of genomics and handheld and wearable devices will enable all of us to have our own personal dashboard, an efficient way of viewing our electronic health records (EHR).
Finalists and award recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprising experts drawn from the CATAAlliance Governing Council and TELUS.
According to CATAAlliance President, John Reid, "TELUS continues to demonstrate its dedication to technology excellence and innovation leadership through its support of recognition programs, research and advocacy. Awards and related programs create role models and also help to reinforce the power of new technologies in stimulating Canada's business growth and productivity. They are an important part of building Canada's competitive Innovation Nation” adding, ”We're proud to announce that the mHealth Innovation Award will be named in TELUS’ honour and congratulate them on their corporate citizenship."
"Global business success requires future-oriented thinking" said David Wattling, VP, TELUS Health and member of CATA’s Leadership Council. "It also requires innovative capabilities, risk taking and entrepreneurship. Indeed, we are now in a mobile revolution, marked by the arrival of business and professional applications across all sectors of the economy. Improving health care for Canadians is a huge priority for TELUS as evidenced by our substantial investment in leading-edge solutions. The application of advanced mobile technologies has already enabled the transformation of many industries. The opportunity to deploy these tools to better engage consumers and simultaneously save costs is not only immense, it is crucial to the sustainment of our treasured health care system.
He added, “The race to develop new technologies to increase provider productivity and consumer engagement is on and Canadian companies need to be at the forefront. We are honoured to support this new award which recognizes Canada’s best in mHealth technologies.”
The new Award for mHealth Innovation will be presented on May 21st , 2014 in Ottawa at the CATAAlliance's Annual Innovation Awards Gala Dinner, a 29 year tradition of recognizing outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership in expanding the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industries. CTV Host, Paul Brent will be returning as the guest MC and moderator of a stellar CEO Panel of High Tech business leaders focusing on innovation leadership.
