Ottawa, Washington, DC, ...Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, CATAAlliance and its CanWIT (Women in Tech) Division, and U.S. based Springboard Enterprises announced today a research and advocacy partnership to help find answers to the entrepreneurship gender gap in Canada and other jurisdictions.

CATAAlliance CEO, John Reid, said, “ the proportion of female-owned small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is substantially lower than the proportion of women in the labour force; moreover the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa has completed seminal research showing that female-owned businesses do not grow as quickly as those owned by males.”

Reid added, “The goal in establishing the CATA/Telfer/Springboard Enterprises partnership is to answer the question: “Is this slower growth because women are less likely to seek growth, and if so, why?”

Telfer School of Management Vice-Dean, Allan Riding said “We are now completing a gender gap questionnaire to reach out to the community for further input and guidance on required policies and programs to address gaps and growth opportunities for women led enterprises. And we are teaming up with our partners for video interviews with thought leaders around the globe with views to share on how to best address the entrepreneurship gender gap.” **

Amy Millman, CEO at Springboard Enterprises concluded,”This is not only a matter of gender equity. Rather, a gender gap in performance of our growing enterprises reflects that we are not taking full advantage of our human, physical and human capital, with negative consequences on job creation and prosperity.”
