Bob Schreiner Assistant Fire Chief - Operations
North Vancouver City fire Department

Chief Schreiner joined the Fire Service in 1978, and has been with the North Vancouver City Fire Department since 1986, where he has served in a variety of capacities including Training Officer for five years, and was promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations in January, 2007, where he continues to oversee the department training programs as well as day-to-day incident response and acquisition of most of the department’s ‘technical’ equipment.

The NVCFD provides Hazardous Materials Response to the three major North Shore municipalities and mutual aid to four other Metro Vancouver Hazardous Materials Response departments. Chief Schreiner was very instrumental in developing the NVCFD HazMat Program and as a result of aggressive effort has managed to have over 90% of his firefighters trained to the HazMat Technician Level, while almost half of those are trained to the Advanced Level of the National CBRNE First Responder Training Program. Although a small urban department of 50 suppression firefighters, NVCFD was recognized for its HazMat response capability and was part of the 2010 Winter Olympics’ Integrated Security Unit’s HazMat and CBRNE Response for both Cypress and Whistler Mountain venues.

Chief Schreiner has been an instructor for the National CBRNE First Responder Training Program since 2006, having taught numerous times in both Ottawa, Ontario and Suffield, Alberta, for firefighters, Police Officers and Paramedics from coast-to-coast. He is also a Hazardous Materials Instructor and has previously held Instructor Certifications in other technical disciplines such as High-Angle, Confined Space and Water Rescue and First Medical Responder.

Academically, Bob has a Certificate in Business Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and is currently working on an Associate Certificate in Leadership, as well as attaining his certification for NFPA Fire Officer III through the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Bob has been married to his understanding wife, Susan, for 24 years. They have a son, 18 and a daughter, 17. Bob is an avid do-it-yourselfer and wood-worker.
