CATA renews its call to the Minister of Finance for the federal government to set aside proposed new tax changes

CATA
Alliance, (www.cata.ca) as Canada’s one voice for innovation lobby group, renews its call to the Minister of Finance for the federal government to set aside proposed new tax changes in favour of a comprehensive review of Canadian tax policy.

We reiterate the offer that should there be worrisome abuses of the current tax system, our advisors stand ready to work with the federal government to pursue ways to tighten the rules. Based on marketplace feedback, the current proposals are not the solution and are creating uncertainty for business owners and a lack of civility in public discussions.

While we appreciate the government’s public statements indicating an openness to tweaking the proposals, CATAAlliance members feel the significance of these proposals requires far more than a few tweaks.

CATAAlliance makes the following recommendations:

  • Take these proposals off the table
  • Launch meaningful consultations with the community to address any shortcomings in tax policy without unfairly targeting independent businesses
  • Undertake a comprehensive review of the Canadian tax system with a view toward fairness and simplification for all taxpayers

We are part of Coalition for Small Business Tax Fairness now representing 63 business associations that support this approach to developing effective and fair public policy.
