Ottawa, ON…CATAAlliance, Canada’s One Voice for Innovation Lobby Group has applauded Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, call for the federal government to leverage its purchasing power by becoming marquee customers for Canadian technologies.

In a recent interview, Minister Bains said, “We think the government can play a major role to be a marquee customer [and] to help validate products and services to allow companies not only to succeed in Canada…We want to demonstrate the economic benefit associated with how this can help high-growth firms [and] the fact this will create high-quality jobs. That’s the primary objective. We’re putting a lot of thought into program design.”

The new public policy model will likely rework the CATA inspired Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP, drawing on some of the best practices of the U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.

CATA has reached out  to tens of thousands of executives in opt in social networks, advisory board members, including video interview commentary, subject area experts and research teams, to advance innovation guidance, inclusive of marketplace approaches to government procurement.
